9th of February – the Japanese would launch a surprise attack on the Imperial Russian held port of Port Arthur (Lüshun). The attack would be orchestrated by Admiral Tōgō Heihachirō over rival ambitions for the Korean peninsula and parts of greater Manchukuo (Manchuria).
